    Heer Flak Badge, opinions please...

    Hi all,

What do you say about this badge, and cardpaper case? My first thoughts were FLL because of the 'shepherd hook' catch, and the faint 'Frie' on the stamp. I would welcome any opinions on this piece, please.

It appears that someone has applied a clear lacquer coating to the front.

Yes, looking at it, it does.

I'm still very interested in finding out whether this piece is a known original, or a possible copy. Any opinions are really appreciated.

One note on this particular dealer. He's a very honest man who is working very hard trying to find out himself 'what is what' in the collecting field. He's confessed to me time and time again that his only desire is to please the customer with honest period pieces. I know he means it. This piece just came to him, and him and I are working at finding out about it.

Would this be one piece to compare?

The box is a known original i know Marcus Hatton has two, both with mm F. Linden and Allan Pilch has one as well. These boxes are not easy to find!
            Kind regards Ren******233;

Rene, I found one at the fair in Duiven (Netherlands) but didn't bought. Another forummember "Medalmike" bought it for something about 90 EUR (including badge)...

Robert, the box as stated by others is a good one

Yes, the box is a nice original piece with a good stamp, there is no doubt. I fear the badge is suspect, that the box has been teamed up with a counterfeit badge.

I would appreciate any other replies on the badge, good or bad.

I'm trying to look at this badge with an open mind. I see the reverse hardware is completely different on both badges. Also there are two rivets to the left of the support brace on the lower left gun turret on the original 'pillow-crimp' flak badge. The other badge, which has the same eagle and wreath, has one rivet. A minor difference, but coupled together with the different hardware to the reverse, make this badge 'suspect' to me. If anyone has any comments please feel free to speak out.

Here's the original 'pillow-crimp' first with two rivets...

Close but not the same. The eagle's head and gun barrel are clearly different.

I'm not up on the zinc Heer flak badges. Maybe someone else can identify this maker...

                            Any ideas, anyone?

As Don stated, they are similar, but they are not the same. Here is my pillow crimp.

                              I once flew in a B-17, B-24, & a B-25. Next, I want to fire an 88 round.
