Well I think you mean 'Sniper' rather than 'sharp-shooter'

There was a qualification badge (lanyard) for this during the TR (for tank gunners as well) and you will get info on that award itself (how it was made, who made it, etc.) but little else on the history of the recipients here.

    Try the Axis History forum

You will get a better response to your questions that do not specifically refer to a TR award.

      info about german snipers.

there was a special magazin produced for the snipers back in 1938 when thei`ve tried out some 98k`s as sniper rifles.
You can sometimes find the magazines for about 25 ttll 30 euro`s.
Don`t know the name but i`ve got a picture of a friend of mine wich has one on his 98k.
don`t know how to upload the picture sorry.
      Futher.
The snipertraining was on an old inafantryschool near Berlin in the town of Zossen.
      They started training around 1939.
Before that they were being trained in Russia together with the russian army.
Because their was still the versailles treaty.

In 1944 they have isseud 3 qualifikationpatches in bronze, silver and gold.
But it was almost never worn.
Because when the russian caught a german sniper he was sure to be torured to death.

They had special ammunition (same as the russians) including explosive rounds of ammo.
With could do some searious damage like splatter your head into three peaces.
I have read a book about a german sniper.
I can`t recall the name but it was a german book and i bought it on e-bay germany and it is in German language.

Hope to have helped on this topic.

You would be better of writing in French rather than this machine translated junk. you would get a better result.

I am only guessing you want info on snipers

here are a few general links

                http://www.snipercentral.com/tidbits.htm
                http://wio.ru/galgrnd/sniper/sniper.htm
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_sniper

Oh and by the way the origin or the word "sharpshooter' has noting to do with shooting strait.

It is an US civil war term for men who were good "marksmen' who would be given "Sharps" rifles as oppose to the regular weapon.

There is great confusion here between being a 'Sharpshooter, 'Sniper' and a 'Marksman'

Unfortunately Sharpshooter is just a slang expression and does not have a real military context

a 'Marksman' military speaking is some-one who is a good shot and may of qualified for an award for such (ie the German Lanyard, Canadian Badge, Queens Medal for Champion shot

a 'Sniper' Militarily speaking is a highly trained specialist who usually attends and successfully completes a course of some form. (they are specialist in cam and concealment, quite movement, isolation tolerance) They do not really have to be super-duper shots.

Of course this varies from country to country.

And the movie a few years ago with the German col sniping at the Russian corp was a load of crap. Sniping is a NCOs trade no officer would of done it.

Sniper also has a tactical military meaning when a lone enemy solider is taking pot shots (well aimed or not) at a group of other solders. The Japanese were famous for this in the jungle and they never had a 'Sniper' School.

if by "division of shooters embusque"

You me a special unit made of only Snipers.

Then no there was no all sniper units in any army that I am aware of.

It would make no military sense even if there ever was a unit like this.

It was general practice of most WWII armies to assign one or two Snipers to a infantry recce units at the regimental level.

                  Snipers

These "real" top sniper lists of WW2 which are available on www-sites are always funny to read.

Almost every site tells different amount of kills for persons in list and almost every list got this Major Konig said to be best of germans.I say these lists have nothing to do in reallife history.Few example sites:

http://www.snipercentral.com/snipers.htm <--Major Konig in this list.

As far as I know there are no known authentic pictures of the german sniper badge being worn on a uniform. Who knows, maybe there is still one somewhere out there in a old shoe box or photo album waiting to de discovered.... I hope one day it will be.

                      Thanks for your crosses

But import it is that they understand each other of one Manner or dune Other one.

But there is a lot nobody who does not use to translator (am who does not speak French or the Serbian)

My purpose is to know the most possible about the shooters to isolate German during the second world war (because they it is very can of thing – this impossible that in 5 years German one to form that a dozen shooters embusquer or to isolate for our information there must be other person who one props to base in Serbia - Slovenia - Romania (On the Eastern forehead is the north)

Because the German of the second world war they put a full stop of shooters' rules to isolate (of foundation is of behaviour practice is art of camouflaging)

It is true that the good shooters go back up to American civil war is that everything begins has this period.

Greg, your award document in #7 was not for sniper skills, but rather for marksmanship and was accompanied by a award lanyard. This may have been the predecessor or successor to the SS Marksmanship awards that were the subject of an excellent article by Andrew Mollo in the Military Advisor.

The Scharfschuetzen/Snipers of early 1945 were urged on to success by Himmler in his successive field command positions. He instituted material awards including firearms for the high achievement snipers and hosted them for luncheons in early 1945. This was the subject of an article I wrote for the Military Advisor about presentation Sauer 38 pistols that Himmler awarded to his snipers.

Gran Sasso, your Scharfschuetzen document on the other thread is superb.

well I just received a SS Sleeve Diamond, and added it to my Document (above). I think they look good, now I'm going to hang a Lanyard I have on the fame with it.

Thought you might like to see the Diamond in the frame.

                              thanks greg koepp
