    My First PAB. Real Deal?

I just picked up this Panzer Assault Badge from an online auction. It was impulsive to get it without much research beforehand, but it is "scooped" (and the auction was ending in minutes!).

It is unmarked. Is this a good one? Any idea on the maker if it is genuine? If this one is a repro, I'm still ok as I haven't processed payment yet.

The seller also has a GAB mrked Assman that I am interested in too.

All comments and opinions are welcome!

    Thanks!
    John

Thanks Philippe! I was hoping it is real- I guess it's time to email the seller

I might post a pic of the Assman GAB here to see if it is genuine; If it is original maybe he would consider a substitution??

      Won't hurt to ask!

      Thanks again!

        Hi John,

Seems a good idea. Just one word of advice, never buy on impulse unless your 101% certain about the item In question.

Post pictures of items your interested in on the forum first if your in doubt. And remember even if you miss a good deal, there will always be better ones to come allong later.

Are there any specific or general details that classify this piece as a fake that you can tell me?

The reason I ask is that the seller has contacted me. While he doesn't doubt the conclusion that it is a repro, he wants to know how he was mislead by the person he bought it from. He genuinely thought that the badge was original too.

Very understanding and honorable fellow, it seems.

                Let me know,
                John

                  Hi John,

I think this badge is trying to copy a marked AWS PAB.

Besides the eagles head, the very sloppy hinge crimpe (alltough not untypical for these badges) and the missing crimp on the catch it's most of all the deep, mechanical looking scoop out in combination with the shiny metal on the reverse that put me of on this badge. I just spend some time looking for a good pic of an other unmarked example with the same features but the site where I last remembered seeing one of these isn't accessible anymore without registration.

On M. Pinkus site you will find an example of a marked fake, http://tankbadges.homestead.com/Fakes.html

And in this tread there is a good pic of a marked original badge shown by FranK H that cleary shows the crimping technique on the catch and the much smoother features of the Scoop out. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=AWS+PAB

                  Hope this helps

Thanks for everyone's help in this matter, especially Philippe!

I only wish that I had a resource like this website back in the 1980's when I was REALLY addicted this hobby.

                    Might become addicted again!
