    Strange German Heer Medal

Hy, I hope someone can help me on this one...

I bought it a few days ago in Belgrade. The man who sold me this medal didn't know a thing about it. He sad it was dug from the earth. He even sad that if I have any doubts or complaints about it's origin, I can return it to him. So i decided to buy it.

I'm sorry for the bad pictures, for better pics you'll have to wait a week or two.
The inscription under the soldier says: "II./GEB. J******196;G. RGT. 98" which I firmly believe stands for "2. Abteilung, Gebirgsj******228;ger-Regiment 98". On the other side there's the inscription: "BALKAN 1943/1944" It operated in the Balkan peninsula during 1943-1944.

Can anyone give me any information about this medal? I never seen one like this before. Any comment will be appreciated.
P.S. I know the ribbon is wrong, so you don't need to comment

    Regards, Mathew

This is one of the many good luck/rememberance pieces that were commissioned by various units. It is unofficial and were worn as tokens and watch fobs by German soldiers.

Obviously, the Russian Front ribbon is incorrect for this piece.

Thanx Bob! Do you know what would be the value of such a piece?
