    PAB From the Vets Family

Just picked this one up this morning from the daughter of a 2nd Armored vet. She vaguely remembers him saying he took it off a POW. Not being a badge guy can I ask does this one look like early quality? Corrosion has started to take it over, should anything be done?

        Hi Perry,

To be absolutly sure about this one I would like to see a sharper pic of the obverse and the eagles head.

Alltough at first glance it looks believable my gut feeling tells me that there is something wrong here.

The thinks I don't like on this badge are the following

The uge catch and extremly thin catchplate.
The perfect condition of the non corrodet parts of this badge
The color of the badge more gold than bronze
The uneven surface visible on the good parts of the reverse
The corrosion looks rather chemical and in my opinion could only result from a long stay underground (but that isn't consistent with the story and with the good condition of the resulting finish).

Just my thoughts (Jan Arne how does it compare to your flock of F&R PAB's)

          I agree with philippe,
Too much corossion for this to have happened naturally.
it is odd, detail wise for a f&R for the reasons cited above.

          someones been playing i think!

          regards keifer

            Hi Guys !
I think that PAB could be OK .
Is pics taken with flash on camera ?
As Phillippe sais , we should have had better / sharper pics if PAB .
Here are back of mine two Frank & Reif in bronse , for compare .

                Hello friends,

to me the badge looks ok in the details both obverse and reverse.
I think the golden colour could be an effect of the flash, instead what is odd, as already pointed out, is the pattern of the corrosion, I think Philippe is right, it looks like the surface has been attcked by some chemical.
                Just my 2 cents.

                Cheers,
                Matteo

This is interesting. Would be the first time I bought a repo from the Vet's family

                              Hi all,

well just to swim against the tide this actually this looks OK to me.
This was probably in mint condition when the vet picked it up, I reckon it has just been stored incorrectly over the years, probably somewere damp, and this has caused the corrosion.
I have a set of brand new tools in my motorbike that I never use, the other day I took them out and one side was totally rusty and starting to corrode, the other side however looked as if I had just bought them from a shop!
Perry, I think the best tip for preserving badges came from Frank H, try using some vaseline.
