I would take a solf old toothbrush and get the white zincpest out of the areas where it is growing. In the oxide form, it will attract mor oxigen and air moisture and actively continue to degrade the badge.

I prefer and use motor oil and let it sink into the metal for a day or two because I live in a very high humidity climate. Overkill? No doubt, but it works on these old pieces and saves them.
