I just received this IAB puchased from estand. I had assumed that it was a plated buntmetal badge. However it seems to be solid nickel silver. Inspection of the edges show no color showing through, and the back of the badge has the typical nickel silver patina. I have searched the forum, but it appears that all the nickel silver badges are of the hollow type. Could this be made of solid nickel silver? The catch has broken off, and had at one time been repaired. The broken catch was made of plated brass wire. The badge is not marked. I would very much appreciate some help with this piece.

Without having the badge "in hand" it's hard to tell what it's made of, my knowledge is not great enough to determine whether it's nickel silver from the pics and information. However it does look like a very good and correct IAB, I would be more than happy to have this in my collection, it's a beauty -

Thank you for the information. I was not aware that chrome plating was used on these badges. I still have a lot to learn, but that is one of the great things about this hobby. I am glad this badge is a good one, it has a very nice feel to it and I love the finish. To me it is a very nice piece, even with the broken catch.

Looks like a very nice unmarked L/56. These are known to have had a couple different finish types. Silver wash, buntmetal caotings and a thick Chrome like finish. I think yours is a zincer with that nice Chrome finish mentioned already. If you can get a weight on it that should end the mystery. Either way great catch!
