help for a newbie

hi guy's i've collected ww2geman helmets for about 5yr's..i'm now starting collecting german awards i'm started with a krim sheild off bob i,and a black w/b off jamie cross..can any of you guys please tell me which book to buy as a guide to the good the bad and the ugly of the 3rd reich awards....

some books may help, but there are a lot of fakers pop up recently. I would say reading some more threads and making some "search" will help.

books are nice and there are some excellent ones out there, if you can get hold of them! But I've found that you can't get better than this forum for advice, and a huge amount of info and examples.

Both Michael F Tuckers 'German Combat Awards' & especially Frank Heukemes' book on GAB's are a must and money well spent, IMO.

Frank Heukemes' book on GABs and the new one he will have on PABs soon. This forum is the best place to learn and compare. Estand is a great place to buy from. It's the first place to look.

Oh I don't know - I've picked up some very nice items from JC.

It's the same with any seller - you just need to do your homework first and ensure what you purchase is what you expect.

As a newbie myself let me pass this advice along. Tuckers book and of course Frank's book are both excellent, but nothing can beat handling badges and looking them over very carefully. In other words experience. Then the other thing that has realy helped me is that i have humbled myself and asked my more knowledgable friends to look at badges i have found before i buy them. And as i was reminded not to long ago research and doing your homework. Finaly the people on this forum are great with their knowledge and respect for each other. I personaly would not hesitate to buy something from any one of them. They are what i call a bunch of stand up guys.. Thank you to them all frank v. (vitts)
