Posted for (new) member astrelick. Not my area of expertise, but I don't hold much hope for it.

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

              Fake 25 PAB

Thanks for the info. Of course I am disappointed since I met a fellow (a knowledgable dealer in German WW II militaria) at a show and he told me it was good. If it was so obvious to all of you what did I (he) miss? Please give me some more details to avoid mistakes in the future. Thanks.

                Hello Hank,

maybe this dealer was Carsten Staegemeir or some similiar crook - they sell such things as originals every day so they will avoid to tell the collector the truth.....

Could you tell us the name of the dealer - I think if yes many of the forum can tell a few words to his quality .....

                Kind Regards

                  "Expert" Dealer

                  Max:
Sorry, but I did not get the dealer's name. He was set up at an Antique Show in Richmond, VA. at the end of November. Got the impression that this was the first time he had done this show. Was there with a lady who had a huge amount of jewelry. Neither his set up or the lady's was very neat. lots of stuff just thrown in large showcases. He had a number of German helmets, uniforms, and a very large amount of badges of all types. None of them had price tags, but he seemed to know the prices and the items were not cheap. Does this help any?

                    My PAB 25

                    Hello Gang:
Just want to add that I saw on ePier Auction a PAB 25 that is surprisingly similar to mine! It is Lot 1332790 and the starting bid is $469.95! But there no one had bid on it yet. What does this mean? I am not familiar with ePier and the items they auction. The Item Description does not say if the item is original or a repro, but to start out at $469.95! Any comments on this item or ePier would be appreciated.

                      Hi Art,
I have not seen this PAB 25 on ePier but would be willing to bet its a fake, just based on the source and the low starting Bid.
If you are looking to pickup a PAB 25 I would go to E-Stand and / or talk with some of the guys on the Forum that are experts on these and they may help locate you one, or stay with the reputable dealers. Getting one at a cheap price is the first warning, and it does you no good if its a fake . Wait and get a real one my friend

                        My PAB 25

                        Bill and Others Interested:
Thanks for the advice. However, "cheap" is a relative term. I am not a collector, but a seller of German and American militaria, among other things. In the past, I bought and sold only lower end items and items that I knew were original. Other than a Paratrooper Badge (which I sold at a nice profit) this is the highest end badge/item that I have acquired. What ever I buy, I need to buy it "cheap" enough to make a decent profit. Yes, this PAB 25 was "cheap" and I honestly thought it was a bargain and original. I took it to several antique shows and a number of "collectors" looked at it, but none stated that it was a repro. I had a high price on it. Now, I have removed the price and will discuss the item with anyone interested in it and if the price is right for both of us, hope to sell it at a smaller profit than originally expected. After all, the "secret" to selling anything is, "Buy low, sell high"!!! Back to the ePier item. I checked out the Sellers current auctions and he had 8 pages! The strange thing is that none of them had any bids!!! Some were ending in a few hours and others in 6 or less days. I also looked at the results of Sellers previous auctions and found 6 pages of them. Without a detailed analysis, it seems that he sold about half of the items. In all but one case, there was only 1 bid on the items sold. I found this very strange. He offers his items at a high starting price and gets only one bid. Some are high end items in the 4 figures. Not sure what this means. A few years ago, before eBay banned Nazi items, a lot of discussion on this and other Forums was about the junk/repros on eBay. This was a great service for those considering bidding. It looks like E Stand is now providing buyers with original items. Any other auctions or sites recommended for original items?
