    CupAl Infantry Assault Badge

    Hi Guys,

    Over the months I have had a bit of a think about where I want my collection to go and being on restricted funds (arn't we all) I find that it is impossible to spread my resources as far as I would like.

    As such, I have retained a few Iron Crosses, some nice Kreigsmarine badges and decided basically to stick with the IAB/GAB/PAB range which although my collection is quite modest in size it is of I believe a nice quality.

    Here is the latest IAB that I recieved today from a fellow member. It's a very nice CupAL and fits into the above criteria as well as having the bonus of being a bit unusual.

    Note the grove on the reverse next to the (as viewed) left wing. This is mirrored on the obverse side too.

    I think this is a nice badge and goes well with a CupAL GAB that I purchased a while back.

    This makes a IAB/GAB/PAB collection of 8,3,9 respectfully together with two Close Combat Clasps.

    Hope you find the badge of interest - I think it's superb.

      Has the catch been resoldered, just looks very shiny around the base.
      And how is the catch attached, looks like it sits on a circular base plate?

      Any chance of an angled shot...

      Sounds like a nice collection you have.

          Hi Graeme,

          I've had a good look and it has the same solder on the hinge and the catch and this also is the same as on my CupAl GAB so pretty confident it is original and came from the same workshop- I think it is just the light used as it solder is a matt grey when viewed in the hand.

          Yes, both badges have catches on a circular plate which are then soldered to the rear of the badge. Also, both open to the left which is a little unusual as most badges open to the right.

          I note that your's doesn't have the grove I was taking about - different dies perhaps?

          I'll try to get angled shots tomorrow as the sun has set now.

            If you could get a couple of close ups of the groove front and back would be nice. For me this looks like it could have happened after the badge was made. IMO I can't see it being a die flaw, not both sides. Looks like whatever caused the reverse groove, made an impression on the front at the same time.

              I don't think you could ask for a more perfect representation of a Cupal production IAB - the finish is spectacular.

              I'm also looking for an example of a Cupal IAB, GAB and PAB. No luck so far Hopefully I'll be able to find some examples as nice as yor IAB!

                Hi Graeme,

                Here you go could not get a good side shot though.

                It's an interesting characteristic which I don't think detracts from the badge. Where it is from or what caused it I have no idea.

                    I've been trying to purchase nice examples to build up a small collection and I must admit that even though I have yet to have a really good look at this badge it has become a firm favourite.
