    CHOLM Shield - ORIGINAL

    Hello everyone,

    I purchased this Cholm Shield a while ago in England from the person who doesn't know anything about German awards. I am pretty much sure this piece is original, but probably, as the most of other collectors, sometimes I am in doubt about authenticity of the things.
    Shield is made of very thin metal and looks like has never been painted.
    Sorry, I cannot show the rear side of the shield because it is sewed to the tunic now. But it has three flat prongs made of some yellow metal: two are on the top and one is on the bottom.

      Can we get a close-up of the eagle's head, as close as possible? I'd like to see detail to the eagle's eye.

          Looks like the detail on the eagle's eye is less than I have seen on other genuine examples.

            ORIGINAL CHOLM EAGLE

            Here is a close up of an original Cholm Shield's eagle. It has a very pronounced pointed beak. The eye is very detailed.

              I am not comfortable with this Cholm shield based on the pics you posted. If you can get clear, sharp closeups, that would be great.

                I agree some details, including the eye, are not sharp as it is on other examples. This could be for numerous reasons. As a matter of fact, this shield has a wear on high points. Ex-owner kept it in a toolbox for years. He didn’t care much about the badge - when I found it, the badge was folded in half.
                When you compare this shield, do you compare it with another "long M" shield? There were different makers, and therefore, different details.

                      bnz.42, I will risk an opinion by saying that this eagle does not have the required "sharp" details to the head that is accepted as orginal. If you could get a clearer picture of the badge it would help greatly. Lastly, please use your name as most of us do here as opposed to a rifle code. Best wishes, Chet

                          The shield is made of pretty thin metal. It is easy to bend it using just two fingers. To prevent it from accidental bending, there is a back plate made of thick metal attached to the shield. You can find these plates on most of campaign shields.
                          Yes, it was not easy to fix it. Fortunately, by being an artist, I can do very detailed and accurate job. It took some hours of near work for me, but the result worth it.

                            Sir if you repared this Cholm Shield that was bent in the middle you are no mere "artist" doing "very detailed and accurate" work. You an a modern "Michelangelo". Are you sure you aren't "pulling our leg"?
