        Hello Mark,

This appears to be a textbook example......and with what looks like most of the original finish to the front. Fantastic, a jewel in anyones collection.

Could you tell us how you acquired this great piece?

Thanks for posting this super badge,
        Mike

            Mike,

I bought the badge from the very reliable Peter Whammond. I always held off from buying a numbered combat award, but this one changed my my mind.
            Thanks for your comments.

            Regards,

            Mark

Mark, Recently at the Max an advanced collector pointed out several characteristics of original PAB 25's more specifically those made by JFS. Two of these stand out on your badge and those would be a small die flaw between the bottom of the 5 and the box looking as if the two are connected and the other being the smudged tread ends on the tanks right track in the center of the badge. Would anyone care to comment on this and possibly bring other characteristics of original badges to light. Steve

I just had a look at my JFS PAB 25 and mine also has the smudged tank tracks, however, my "5" is clearly defined and whilst running close to the bottom of the box it is not connected.

I have looked at other known JFS 25 and the ones I have seen the 5 is clearly defined also: so perhaps not all have this flaw?

I would think that the dies started out good and then were damaged due to use later on.

                      Hi Mark,

Very nice badge! There's a school of thought that feels that these unmarked massive PABs, while very similar to the JFS design, may not be by JFS. The feeling is that the JFS badges have a small raised area around the catch, while the other maker does not (as yours does not).

I'm not ascribing to that theory because I don't know, just pointing out that the theory exists.

Both of the numbered PABs of this style that I've had also had the "smudged" track, though the "smudging" was less apparent on the JFS-marked one. I haven't seen the die flaw under the 5, though I haven't been looking either!

                      Best,
                      Greg

Here's a catch from an unmarked one of that style, that doesn't have the raised area.

                          Hi Guys,

Here is what I can see on my badges.

The JFS marked one has the raised edge aroung the catch, it does not have the smudged tracks, they are perfect, and it does not have the die fault on the five, this is also perfect.

The unmarked so called JFS badge does not have the raised area around the catch, the tracks are smudged on the right hand side and the five has the die fault.

Both badges look identical except for the above mentioned details.

i can post pics if needed, but the ones allready here are fine.

                          Regards,

                          Anthony
