Unknown badge - Help?

Howdy Folks!

I loaned my Band of Brothers DVD set to a neighbor the other day and when he gave it back he included this badge. He bought it during the 1960s in Germany. Whether its authentic or not I have no idea. If anyone can tell me if its authentic and what exactly it is, I would greatly appreciate it ( Can you tell I'm an American Uniform collector? ).
