Man, that last one had the finish of two badges on it. What a beauty. Hate to touch it. Has anyone done any weight comparisons on these 'deformed leaf' IAB's? I'd be curious if anyone came up with something they thought was a copper-based zinc alloy, if there be such an animal?

And here is a vertical crimp deformed leaf IAB.

There are definite differences between this type and the oval crimp. The eagles head and gap between swas and rifle spring to mind.

Last for the night so enjoy.

      best regards

Subtle changes, but same maker. I like the newer eagle's head, less of a bull-dog beak. He still has the same 'smile' too. This has been one of the best threads I have seen on the IAB yet. You've really got a lot of 'deformed leaf' photos. I'm glad I ran into one myself on Detlev's - almost two.

            Well,

To bring this to full circle, I received the two 'deformed leaf' IAB's from Detlev last week. One was described as a massive silver-plated tombak piece, the other a very dull late-war zinc piece. Both from the same mold. Both had the same dimensions, same catches, same everything. I weighed them on my digital electronic powder measure. The 'tombak' piece weighed 15-20% LIGHTER than the dull zinc piece! As usual, Detlev was understanding and adjusted the cost accordingly. He's a great man to work with. The silver-plated zinc piece has a much nicer edge than the silver wash piece has. Either the silver plating covered most of the 'dimples' on the edge, or the change in alloy or something was different. To make it clear, there are some dimples on the edge of the silver plated piece, but just not so many. Well, this wraps this up. It wasn't a tombak piece afterall.

The plated one is just stunning.I don't think I've ever seen a deformed leaf in that superb condition

Here's one more shot of the same silver-plated badge. The picture just doesn't do it justice. In your hand it actually sparkles from the polishing of wear. It has become one of my favorite IAB's. Now if I can just find a J.B.&Co.....anybody? I've lost the last two I've seen on the forum. One just sold last week that was the best I'd ever seen! Fantastic badge.
