            Greg,

It is hard to say. I haven't been to a military show since the early 80's, and I haven't purchased any military items to speak of since around that time. In fact I came back from Germany the first time in 1976, and didn't buy much after that. The second time I went to Germany in 1987 I didn't get much while there, and no medals or badges. It didn't exist a great deal where I was. So most of what I have is from prior to the end of 1976, and most of the medals and badges I got from were obtained between the mid-50's through the 60's. I got a few things starting from as early as about 1948.....but not many. As a young kid, I wasn't mobile very much.....and folks didn't take me serious, so all that I got then was given me by vets who were my father's friends. I don't have any memory of where I got many of the things I have (except a quite large number were from vets) until I went to Germany........and even there I was able to get quite a few things from German vets. I sort of quit collecting in the early to mid-80's, and sold off a lot of my stuff in 3 large groups to 3 different groups of buyers. Most of my daggers and swords went in one group, another group bought most of my helmets and other headgear that I sold, and another got the uniforms, field gear, headgear, and misc. that I sold. I still have a fair bunch of stuff that I didn't sell.........just haven't added much to it since the sales. Also some was destroyed in a fire caused by the movers on my last trip to Germany . Lost a lot of my reference books, and my records of what I got and where, who, when, and how much. Then about 4 years ago I had some health problems which caused some of my memory to depart me to some extent. Most people don't notice it, but I do. My present position keeps me rather busy, and I don't have the time to search out the stuff for the last 17 years...........and had quit a few years before that. Superiors would on it anyway.

Sorry to bore you with a very long answer to a short question, but the short answer, although truthful, would not sound credible (would sound like I was ducking the question)..........it is.........I don't know when, where, or from whom I got them.

By the way......to save the quessing, I am still working and I will very shortly be 67 years old.

            Ron

Well thanks Ron, that actually answered my question quite well. I had asked because thee is a bit of interest in the RK IAB's pebbled and non pebbled so when I see them I try to get an idea as to where they may have come from and how long ago. Where they part of an old collection, a recent hoard or are they new on the scene ect....and your answer was very helpful. Thanks, Greg

I did have the luck to find a few things in Germany that I would now understand to be "hoards"........I never heard that word until this forum though; however, they were not fantastic. I used to search out old tailor shops and etc. in my area. I found a lot of insignia, cap eagles, cocades, a few medals, and a lot of bolts of old uniform cloth (which I didn't buy) and various other smaller bunches of stuff from time to time. However most of the stuff I got in Germany came in small lots, or single items, from German vets occasionally........but mostly from fleamarkets like Frankfurt (mainly), Mainz, Limburg, Kassel, and a few smaller localized ones.

                Glad to be of help.
                Ron
