Heh... Looks like Erich beat me to the punch.
If he says he likes it, then so do I.

          Mike-

Glad I could help. I haven't seen any convincing fakes of the coffee and tea service pieces, although I'm sure that with today's technology it would be very possible to create something very close to an original.

I'd email some of these off to Bill Shea and see what he thinks.

If you're thinking about getting into silverware and the like, you might want to pick up a copy of Mark Griffith's "Collectors Guide to Liberated Adolf Hitler memorabilia."

Let us know how it works out for you.

Sad to say I did not get this item, it went for many $$$$ at auction. As for originality, I believe it to be 100%. It was right out of the woodwork. The pot had been brought back from a vet who had served in the 42nd ID, Rainbow division. The vet died this past April and the family (wife and kids) were selling it because everyone of the six kids wanted it. The family stated at auction that they had used it as the family tea pot their entire lives. A provanace and a photo of the pot in the family home from the late seventies was included in the sale. Some lucky SOB got this, but given the price I couldn't touch it It truly was an amazing piece, one I will probably never see again

As for the wesite you cited, that piece looks as if it was made earlier this morning

                Mike-

Sorry you did not get the pot How much did it go for?

Just curious, do you remember the veteran's name??? My grandfather (who passed away last September) was in the 42nd Infantry Division and was in HQ/HQ Company Special troops. I'm trying to research is time in Europe and I would like to get as much info on 42ID vets as possible. Did the family say where their Father got the teapot?

                Thanks,
Rob (digging up old threads )
