Don't focus on the "extra material" guys the fakes have it too and originals will come without it.

Anyway keep in mind question number 3, is my badge original? I think it is but the whole point of this thread is finding this out for sure.

          Dear Phil,
To find 100% bulletproof answer to this question, we would have to see at least few veteran acquired badges. And i mean straight from the Vet. This would give us basic data base to compare other badges to it.

Very true Robert, but then again how are you going to check the story.

To this avail here is a 50 once sold by Detlev comming out of a grouping. Notice the big die flaw in the "5". Even from these low resolution pics (had to resize them to fit the WAF)I'm confident that it is the twin brother of my badge.

So vetran aquired (DN's grouping). Are we all sure now about how to distinguish between good and bad. Most likely not I would like to think.

Pretty confident that I have a good one as well. Phil, what about your "25" GB eagle and acorn detail?

Thanks Skip for posting your badge!
With 2 different hinges, but IMO made by the same factory. These 2 badges got the same pin markings, the same type of rivets and etc.

                          Interesting thread Guys.
Skips badge has the same extra material in the swas as well.
                          Regards

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

                            Hi Skip,

Thanks for posting your 50. Apart from the fact that your numberbox doesn't feature the flaw in the "5" it indeed is a perfect match to my badge.

At this moment for me this is the bench mark numbered GB. Most GB's that you see arround are different from these badges including my 25.

So what we need to find out now is what kind of differences we are willing to accept on these badges. Since they are all marked with the same mm there isn't much room for variation IMO without immediatly considering a second die or a re-worked die. If we accept the later then we better be damn sure that we can explain it. If we can't it will be business a usual:

" Well you better be carefull with these badges, I have no clue what an original looks like but rumour has it that there are very good fakes out there"

So if we want to see clear in this GB mess, post your badges now or wait untill Frank's book gets published and hope that your type found it's way in to the "original" section.
