      hello Jan

did this maker also use a different hinge system apart from the ball hinge
and instead of the flat wire catch and round wire catch?

i ask this because i found a flatback, marked AS silver PAB just above the catch .

the obverse looks the same as your bronze version but the hinge system is different

      nice PAB BTW

        AS PAB

        Hi Richard !
I do not like flat back PAB`s marker marked AS .
And I dont like AS PAB`s without ball - hinge .
In my opinion that ones is fakes .

Flat backed PABs with ball hinge and marked with the AS-in-a-triangle mark OR the Hermann Aurich trade mark just above the catch are recently made fakes, nothing else.
          Wonderful badge, Jan Arne!!

            Dear Jan Arne,

            Textbook!

            An observation I made:
AS in a traingle used that "flattened" ball hinge with most their bronze PABs and a perfectly round ball hinge with most of their silver ones.

Check the exact same characteristics (lines) on the back of my silver PAB!

Intereseting to see that "misprinted" inner wreath ring upper right quarter on your example (obverse)

            Cheers, Frank

Here's an example of a silver AS that also has the "flattened" ball hinge. Not my badge so I hope the owner doesn't mind me posting it.

                AS PAB

                Hi Frank and Lorenzo !
                Thanks for your inputs !
At the moment I`m on work .
But tomorrow I will post pics of 3 "AS" maker marked PAB`s .
This one in Tombac , one PAB in bronze believed to be made of "fein - zink" and one PAB in silver made of zinc . Not as nice as the 2 badges Frank and Lorenzo shows here . But it match / fit the bronze tombac one . Like this 2 in Silver in thread .
Just someting I wonder about this badges .
Please take a trip to this thread tomorrow .

Here is the other AS PAB with the deeper cut reverse. Notice that the grass blades on this one are different than the other type. This one weighs 22.4 grams versus the the silver that weighs 25.6 grams.

                      AS PAB

                      Hi Lorenzo !
Yupp ! The last one you posted matces mine 3. AS PAB . Different area under tank and more "hollow" back . I call this back "semi - hollow" in this thread . Lets call the last one you posted second type . And tombac one similar to the first one you and Frank posted 1. type .
Second type also match the Hollow PAB`s marked A.S. and "semi-hollow" marked both A.S. and "semi-hollow" marked AS intertwisted in a triangle .
Witch period in the war is the different badges from ?
I would assume that tombac badges are earlie war badges . Like the hollow one . What about the others ?

We have seen IAB and KM badges marked with intertwisted AS in an triangle . But are this badges ever found with makers marks A.S. like some of the second types PAB and the Hollow PAB`s ? . Is this type of makers marks only used on PAB`s ?

                      Jan Arne

                        3 x AS PAB

                        Hi Guys !
Here is pics of 3 x AS maker marked PAB`s . I first post pics of front . Look at area under tank ( details on grass ) . And "windows" on left side upper on turret . Line between "windows" is different on senter PAB . On senter badge line is raised . On left and right badge it is a impressed line between two tin raised lines . And the last one posted by Lorenzo has two raised lines , badge is similar with mine in senter but lines do not match/fit lines one left and right of mine badges . Top and bottom line one badge posted by Lorenzo goes over the two lines , on my right and left badge it is a space in this area between the two tin lines .

I have seen front of the badge Frank is shows here in an other thread , and his badge has this space between the two tin line . On first bagde posted of Lorenzo I`m not able to se this , pics are a bit to small .

                          3 x AS PAB

                          Hi Guys !
I post pics of back of badges .
From right bronze badge made of Tombac , bronze badge made of "fein - zinc" in center and to left silver badge made of zinc .
I would assume that tombac badge is a earlie war badge , senter badge is a mid - war badge and silver zinc to right is a mid - war to late war badge . Just my opinion .
If they used one die earlie in war and end of war , why did they use a different one in one period of the war ?
Perhaps it is a logical explaination on that , I just wonder , and ask .

                            Hi Guys,

This is a good thread on my favorite subject and goes someway to explaining about AS Tank badges, here is how I see it with the AS in a Triangle type.

I have the same badge as Jan has, the Bronze one at the top of this thread, it is a high quality badge that has a lot of hand work on it and is "TOMBAC" and is DIE STRUCK, exactly the same design as the Zink one but with different grass, and weighs 28.60 Jan's is 29.30 this is how I see it all.

AS in a Triangle Tank badge.

1 Tombac die struck, dished back with type one grass.

2 Zink same design as above but with a half hollow back and type 2 grass

Both have the ball pin, some with the flat head and some with the round head.

So it seems that the same DIE was not used for the second type eithere back or front.

Does anybody have a Silver first type in "TOMBAC" if so could you please post a pic.

The Tank badges with the A.S is another story, so are there IAB badges, there exist an IAB with the AS in a Triangle but with the Square for the pin block like the A.S Tank badges, also of course IAB's with the normal ball pin arrangement, it is getting to the VERY confusing stage, however now that there are two different versions of the AS in a Triangle Tank badge, I am beginning to think that all the A.S and AS badges are made by the same maker.

I hope that all this makes some sort of sense, anyway here is my Tombac AS in a Triangle first style badge. Notice that Jans has the flat ball pin and mine has the rounded one.

                            Regards,

                            Anthony
