Having very limited contact with non luft Spanges, I noticed some weird stuff on some CCCs I just got. Not worries in my mind of them being fake, but it is just quirky stuff,,First one....F&BL Maker mark is upside down

Final 2 questions on this FLL
The catch is upside down, does the same rule appy to CCCs as badges in the best way ive been told " It Happened"
And also the remenants of the finish appear more gold on this one, I was explained awhile ago on minor groove differences and a space in the bottom wreath how to distinguish, The grooves on the rays of a bronze are more rounder compared to a gold?Attached FilesIam Uncle Sam

Yes Marvin, I know they are good ones, Just confused on certain rule of thumb on backing plates and so forth. Also ifany of you need photos of My R.S. for reference let me know. With the MMs I also had a JFS once that was stamped on thewrong side of the clasp.Iam Uncle Sam

All clasps from one maker were exactly the same they just received a different wash/plating. No differences to grooves or anything else.
According to regulations ALL backplates should have been black when made. I also have badges were some of the plates have no black on them anymore. It would appear that some backplates were actually painted while others were chemically darkened. The chemically darkened ones tend to loose all this over the years leaving just the naked metal wereas the painted ones can keep differing amounts of the black according to use/storage.
The only other known difference between backplates that I know of is that Juncker used non-magnetic wereas all other manufactureres used magnetic.
F&BL MMs should always be upside down. The reason behind this is, as yet, unknown. F&BLs with the mark the right way under the catch are fakes.
Dions one JFS with the mark "the wrong side" was in fact (probably) the type one clasp wereas we are more used to seeing the type two clasp.
BTW A very nice type one JFS is currently for sale on the estand
Upside down catches can happen although rarely seen on CCCs. You are much more likely to discover any of the other war badges with the catch opening to the left than a CCC with a reversed catch.

Moin Skip,,,Could have been the wear on the grooves, but under the Mag. Glass looking at 2 different variants, I did see a diff. You know how it goes, always atheory in the hobby every 5 mins
Skip I did as I recall (ahem) see a definite difference in the bottom space of the wreath.Iam Uncle Sam

Dion, of course there can be variations under the same badge from one maker, just look at AGMuK. But believe me there is NO way to tell the difference from bronze/silver/gold going by the strike. They used one die and just changed the colours.
You picked up some great stuff there though. Pity I have it all already. Co******250;ld******180;nt have been a bronze GWL or silver Hymen could it!
