    Silver flat back PAB

Ok not one of the rare versions, but this one is in lovely condition ! In hand that is, near to mint in fact and then under the scanner you can see the wear.........bugger !!

This was dealer purchase whom aquired it from a vet (British), so the first collection it will adorn is my humble lot.

A couple of interesting things to note on this one, the 'Wernstein design', 'rocky' what ever you guys call it, it has the 'solder swas' and flaw in the track.

Of little consequence I guess is that the catch is a left hander and in the hinge has a brass core pin which has a narrow incuse recess like a 'flat head' screw, the other end of the hinge pin hole is nicley solder filled and theres also a small portion in the screw head end.

These 'blobs' I see on Wernstein's but aren't so prominent as on this flat back ?

                    Skips thrown my thought now

The hinge, here we see the solder nicely covering the hole, but only just with minimal solder.

The brass ''screw head'' pin in the hinge.

It's not so apparent on the pic and needs to be in hand really.

And lastly the catch, left hand affixed for the pin to be retained.

                            Marcus,
That is a sweet one. The dimple does beg the question, are these flatbacks related to the dishbacks? For sure, I will have to check my two dishbacks when I get home from work today.

                              Marcus,
Congratulations, very lovely badges and these are classic flatbacks IMO. The same die flaw from the left track could be found on other classic flatback examples also the finish is exactly the same as on classic flatbacks. The dimple was probably "created" upon rejection from the die (maybe).
BTW - i have never seen nicer flatback in bronze then your example... - he, he no wonder, i just have realized that i missed last part of your post Marcus about the bronze being a ÜÜ...
