CCC in Silver - Opinions Please

    Hi all

I am about to purchase the Silver CCC on estand.

Please can I have ur comments, says comes with Detlev COA but the badge appears to have been discussed here due to the full stop in the maker mark lettering:

Please can I have ur opinions as to whether it is OK.

    Regards

    Andy

Yes I think it looks ok too, it was just the thread about the full stop in the MM that didn't seem to get resolved.

              Hi Andy,

I have 4 F&BL clasps and none of them have a full stop after the "B". I don't think this is much of a concern though since the initials are extremely small and I doubt it would take much build up of material to fill up this part of the die and eliminate it. The makers marks on 2 of mine are pretty well deformed and flattened, most likely due to their tiny size, wear of the die and possibly shifting of the die slightly during the strick. Since your letters are nicely formed, I would put your clasp as a very early produced one. More evidence that yours is an early clasp is that you will also notice that there is no vertical die flaw on the obverse which can be seen on about 1/2 of the F&BL clasps on the market today, which was caused by a crack in the die sometime during the later part of the war.

Everything else on the clasp is perfectly textbook.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
