    S&L pab opinions

Hello to all, I am new to this forum and in my first post I already need your help. I recently purchased this S&L pab with late war setup. At first blush I cannot find anything wrong with it but I also have a feeling that something isn't right. I hope I am wrong. Hinge and pin are made from tombak, catch is magnetic. Fire away guys!

It indeed is a good one but not really late war, the quality of the strike and especially of the finish is just to good on these badges.

Here is my example with that same variant set-up.

Thanks for the kind words & opinions guys . I got somewhat confused by the relatively bendable pin and the almost to good to be true finish, but my first impression was right all along. I bought this one along with a unknown maker 10 GAB from a guy who assumed they where copies. Price? 20 euro a piece....

This is the GAB. Nice condition, maybe with repaired catch. Difficult to see on badges from this maker

Well I don't suppose you won't to share your shopping address.

Great deal and the GAB is an unrepaired original. This is the typical rather sloppy way in which the catches were soldered on to type 1.27.2.

                          Dear Phil,
Are we really sure that crimped badges were made at the end of the war? I still got in my memory great research work done on CCC's by Tom. IMO, he made really good point based on the FLL CCC’s. As we know the "Oval Crimp" PAB's, are featuring the really high quality finish on them as well. I'm not sure that crimp setup = late war anymore...Tom is shooting at “mid war” as a production period and I have to admit that I like his theory...

                            Dear Robert,

I think every time one tries to put something with Third Reich Awards into a very general rule, one can only go wrong. What Philippe meant is that in the case of the S&L PABs, the crimped ones might be the latest ones. In other cases, with other badges, or even must other makers for the same badge, the crimping technique might have been already introduced mid-war. Generalizing things is always dangerous.
                            Cheers, Frank

Good points Frank. At some point i think we should start the thread about the "Crimped" PAB's... or we can just wait for your book...
