    Heeresbergfuhrer & Policebergfuhrer Badges

    Gentlemen,

I am a new member and this is my first post, so please excuse me if it is located in the wrong area. My thread has to do with Heeresbergfuhrer and Policebergfuhrer badges; where does one have such pieces authenticated? I am currently in discussions with two different individuals who have such pieces, one located in Germany (Heeresbergfuhrer piece) and the other in the US (Policebergfuhrer piece). It has taken me several years to find pieces that I am comfortable with, yet I would still like to have the pieces authenticated by third parties prior to purchase. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Keith......

    Welcome to the Forums.

There are a couple of different ways to approach your request and the first to mind is try sending them to Herr Detlev Niemann. He will accept pieces, for a fee, to perform authentication. His opinion and expertise is well respected, but he, like everyone else on the planet, isn't infallible, though trustworthy.

the other is to obtain excellent quality images and post them here to guage the reactions.

Nothing better than in-hand inspection and I daresay that there are most likely some here Stateside that could do the same thing as Herr Niemann....I just don't know who they are.

    Hope this helps a bit.

      Bergfuhrer Abzeichen

      Hello Keith;

I second Bruce's idea of posting photos on the forum of both badges. The topic of the HeeresBergfuhrer Ab. has been a recent one upon the forum as well. These badges come in many forged forms, but once one has handled an original..all else pales! I dare say forum members will be able to give you a relative good gauge on whether you should spend the money on getting either appraised. But again, I agree with Bruce, if the piece is convincing here, get it authenticated by Detlev for the German piece. For the PolizeiBergfuhrer piece in the U.S. have it reviewed by Stephen Wolfe of Wolfe-Hardin of Long Beach, CA. I dare say however, that many forum members will be able to assist you more quickly in putting you either at ease with the purchase or swearing you off of the item. Do a search of the topic, and several previous threads should be able to assist you.

Good Luck. I own a HeeresBergfuhrer badge and it took me 5 years to find an authentic one.

Has anybody here bought the Heeres-Bergführer badge from hermann-historica? It was sold for 1950,- euro, I think that was a very good price for such an extremely rare award in very good condition.

            Keith,

I am also a new member but not new to collecting! IMO avoid HBF badges marked "Breiherr Garmisch". Helmut has a nice one which looks like an unmarked Deschler. "Heerbergfuhrer" in black print is ok although
Detlev says it should be in green. I've tried to post a couple of scans of my pieces but am told that the file is too big. I must be doing something wrong...

I think the price of the Weitze-HBF is much to high for that condition - Helmut offered me a special price of 5800,- euro...

Well I paid more than that for my HBF but it is in great condition and came with the guy's Wehrpass mentioning the award plus other docs, Narvik Shield etc. On the other hand my Polizei Bergfuehrer was a lot less money and came with the blue titled case of issue.

Helmut sold another HBF about a year ago which was badly damaged and the price was around €2500 (Euros).

                    Mike,

Lovely piece. Nice to see the black lettering. If you're going to buy this item only once, Deschler marked badges are the one's to have.

A Simply stunning piece! You really need to regale us again with some photos of your collection in the diplays forum when time permits. Again, a great piece. Good for you!

Any chance of the guy's name or scans of the WP?

                          Simon,

It's taken me along time to answer your query but last May I had only just joined WAF and didn't know how to post scans.

Anyway, here are a few shots of my badge plus the recipient's Soldbuch.

His name was Oberleutnant Kurt Bussmer in the 13./G.J.R. 139.

I also have his Narvikschild plus citation signed by Dietl.
