    FAKE ALERT "Buntmetal Hymmen IAB"

    Hi Guys,

Well here is a real new fake, not more then a couple of weeks old and based upon what they learned on this and other forums.

2 years ago even in Gemany most collectors through Hymmen IAB's in the bin. These ugly badges couldn't possiby be original. Untill now this was our luck, nobody bothered to copie the copies.

Well they changed there minds and even made an effort to copy real buntmetal and the typical Wurster chocolate coating. Because they also learned that we are kind of kicking on cut-out swasses they made us the hollow Hymmen cut -out swas IAB

Better watch out for these badges, very deceiving on crappy pics and in Gemany you won't be able to go on the cut-out.

True Marc, something you see easely on my scans but not something you wouldn't be able to see on the crappy pics they use to sell them.

I thought of posting these type of pics on the e-stand first to make my point. I'm rather confident that it would have sold in a few second for lets say $200. Its not everyday that you get the chance to pic up a BM Hymmen.

Don't forget, 99% of collectors never even came close to an original.

              Phillipe,
True. But a caution. Correct or not, people see your name and do not doubt originality. Your reputation speaks for itself.

                Hi Marc

Point taken, next time I'll ask Giel to do some testing on the e-stand first.

All kidding apart, I admit that I fell for this badge, and I was not alone. Based upon the pics I somehow knew that something could be wrong but took the risk. Even before it arrived I was already certain that I got screwed simply because the same seller offered the same badge over and over again.

This badge isn't dangerous once you know what to look for, the differences with the original are simply to big. However I'm confident that even with this thread up in the open it probably won't take very long before others will post this badge and ask for our opinion.

Here is the ugly thing next to the even uglier original. Notice the difference in dimension

                    Hi Jeff,

Good points, but like I wrote the eye ball wasn't visible. In relation to the catch it was this original in my files that fooled me in to believing that Hymmen might have used flatwire catches. Somehow it didn't even cross my mind that this silver example most likely had it's catch repaired. When your always looking for variants your not always thinking as logical as you should do based upon the evidence in front of you.

So you can reply by yourself: "This should be discussed Giel"

That pic would have been enough to entice me to bite. Very frightening

Thanks Phil for posting this here. This badge is absolutely scary IMO. There are many elements in the design of this fake IAB which makes me wonder how close to the perfect fake some bad guys really are? They got correct material (real buntmetal), the chocolate finish look, they even noticed our attention to the cut out swastikas and copied this to their product…If this was version 1, then we may not even recognize (detect) their version 2 in the future…
Great catch Phil! One more time thanks!

                              Hi Guys

Thought I show you the silver version too.

Untill now all badges are comming from one and the same source which is very uncommon so I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is making them.

Keep the name in mind, a known fake peddler from Vienna, Austria
