    Unmarked GAB

    Hi Guys,
Here is an unmarked gab that I am thinking of buying. The hinge and pin look good to me, but I am not so sure of the "semi-hollow" back on this one. As usual, your opinions are very appreciated.
PS--My search for a badge like this came up empty, please don't bite my head off for asking your opinions! I am still beat up from the last post

Interesting GAB, but I have never seen anything that matches it.

The design is the most common of all GAB design's also used by Wernstein, FO, WH, F&B, RS and Kerbach & Oesterfeld. However non of the variants I have seen match your badge.

          Thanks Philippe,
Have you seen the hollowed out bayonet and granate before? Or is the hinge/pin different on this one?

            Hi Brian,

Well the scoop out on your badge also is something I have never seen in this way. Although there is a scoop out it's very undeap and doesn't mirror the entire shape of bayonet and grenade.

From all the above mentioned makers only F&B and WH are using a scooped out. The scoop out on these badges covers the entire design apart from the wreath.

I just had a look in the GAB bible and when taken in to account the set-up on your badge WH would be my best guess. Would it be possible to show us a profile shot of the catch. From what I can see your catch could be a match to Frank's WH type 1.7.1.

              Hi Philippe,
I was thinking the same about the scoop on this badge, I referred to it as "semi-hollow". All the badges I have seen have either a flat back or have a subtle scoop of the eagle, bayonet and granate. I don't have this in hand so these pictures are the best I can do, however I am considering buying this unusual variant. If I do buy it I will post better pics when it arrives. Thank you very much for your time! Brian
