    CCC Gold- Urgent opinions needed!

    Hi everyone,

Have this clasp from a fellow forum member but need opinions on the finish. To me it is an original F&BL clasp but I need to know if the finish is original to the badge. The gold is very bright on the back, yellow in colour and lighter than that found on tomback wound badges, DKiG wreaths etc. There is no sign of the backplate being removed. Finish has darkened on the front which has minimal wear to the eagle but none to the grenade.
There is a resolder to the pin and there appears to be some gold on the repair solder. Quite a few pics to follow so please be patient.
    All opinions welcomed!

    Many thanks!

                            Hi Patrick

Though one! But here are my thoughts. You say the gilding looks different than on the buntmetall gold WBs - that I don't have a problem with. The finnishes I have seen, and trusted to be original, ranges from deep gold to more lemmonish/yellow. Overall I think the goldplating looks good on your CCC but what worries me are:

                            1) This purports to be unworn but yet the needle brooke?
                            2) As I have poited out on the pic below there seems to be scratches on the reverse with finnish over. Schouldn't the finnish dissapear when schratches penetrate down into the metal? I know that these closeup sometimes is difficult to jugde but look out fore signs of wear under the goldfinnish - if you find indentations with goldfinnish over it its a sign that it has been refinnished.

One of the good things, besides from the backplate not showing signs of having been messed with, is that I think I'm seeing signs of airbubbles on the reverse with, as you know, is allways a good sign on zinkers because it takes a while for the zink to reject the finnish - I know that this feature is also faked these days and is also vissible on old fakes. Also I see a spot around the hinge that has a lighter shade than the rest of the finnish wich could be a sign of the needlerepair being done after the finnish, wich I see as a good sign - you don't go through all the trouble refinnishing a CCC only to, when finnished, break the needle and resolder it - or do you?

All in all i have a good feeling about the CCC but as you know these dosen't command the prices they should when you think of their rarity - alot, incl. myself, don't trust these enough to pay nore than about 700-800 Euros for a gold CCC. On the other hand who wants a grey CCC displayed with a gold needle, catch and solder

                            Cheers Thomas

Like Thomas points out, were there are dings and scatches the gold should be gone leaving the grey zinc visable.

Is the gold finish also over the solder thats been used to repair the pin?

Gold tone is hard to tell from the pics but does look rather bright to me as well.
