Fake Daisy PAB? Opinions please

Hello to all of you,

Saw this badge on a website and I'm trying to see if my knowledge level of these badges is improving. To me it looks like a fake; please let me know your opinion.

Hi guys,

Well to be honest I'm not sure that this is a fake.

It for sure isn't the same badge as posted in the fake gallery because it has the correct small cut-out between turret and wreath. The set-up IMO is also textbook and it even features the typical discoloration arround the hinge and catch.

What IYO is wrong with it?

Philippe, these fakes have been getting steadily better re the gap between turret and wreath. The finish is the big give away for me.

As you know I'm just trying to learn these, but I think I've noticed that the fakes lack definition of the inside track rollers nearest the front of the right track (right as you view the front of badge). Also, it looked to me that on the reverse of originals there's more 'flat' area above the gun tube and turret than on the fakes; in other words the "dished" area behind the tube extends nearly to the top of the tube and the turret on the fake badges.

It's probably just my lack of experience at not having seen enough of these. Harvey

Thanks for the additional info. I handled the badge in post 6 of the fake gallery but never had a chance to handle the type posted by Harvey. I see the similarities compared with the second example posted by Don, that I also consider to be a fake.

What I remember from the one in the fake gallery is that it was a lot smaller then the original so measurements for sure would be usefull here.

Robert you're probably correct that this is a US invention I never encountered one on this side of the pond.

I agree with Don and Robert that numerous of these are showing up at US shows, and the overall appearance has improved. I have seen examples with a more suitable (smaller) gap between the wreath and turret, where the fake I showed in the fakes gallery has a large area between the wreath and tank.

As Philippe pointed out, the dimensions of the fake I posted are too small. Here's an excerpt from that thread, showing the dimensions:
the biggest obvious differences are in the dimensions. This one measures 59.1mm x 40.5mm and weighs 21.6g. The dimensions of other zinc semi-hollow daisy PABs that I have measured are:
60.0mm x 41.8mm 29.8g
60.7mm x 41.4mm 30.7g
60.1mm x 41.5mm 30.3g

The ones I have been seeing at shows lately also had the smaller length and width dimensions, though I didn't weigh them.

Thanks for the information. I'm sorry but I don't have measurements for the badge. I saw it on a dealer's website and it had sold for over $200; since it's not for sale I have no legitimate reason to ask for measurements.

Just adding another Daisy for comparison, I've had this one for about 15 years, and always believed it to be original any thoughts?
