    Marksmanship Lanyards(Schutzenschnur)

In addition to German WWII Arms and
ordnance, I collect the subject items.
Does anyone have information about Kriegsmarine marksmanship lanyards,
in particular, badges attached to the
    lanyards?

    Ron,

I believe only the "Award 4 level" had a metal shield attached.

Award 1: Dark blue lanyard with dark-blue interwoven thread

Award 2: Dark blue lanyard with silver interwoven thread

Award 3: same as award 2

Award 4: same as award 2 & 3, but with a gilt metal shield bearing an anchor surrounded by oak leaves.

Awards 2-4 were differentiated by the color of the acorns, winged-shells, shells, and torpedoes.

    Hope that helps a bit.

      Kriegsmarine Schutzenschnur

      Tim:

Thanks. I have a German book covering Schutzenscnur, but i'ts
only for Heer and doesn't cover the other branches. Do you know
of any publication(s) I could obtain with detailed input on the
      Navy marksmanship lanyards you described?

Do you, perchance, also collect these awards?

      Regards . . .

        Ron,

I remember seeing this information in a couple of references, but only find my copy of "For Fuhrer and Fatherland" by Angolia having some basic info in it tonight. It does show a close-up of an Award 1 and the gilt shield of an Award 4 (both B&W pics).

If I find another reference, I'll drop you a line.

Alas, no I do not have any of these lanyards at this point. I was given a Luftwaffe grade 1 once, but then the person had seconds thoughts and wanted it back. I tried to replace it after that with a nice looking Luftwaffe lanyard w/issue document, but after waiting six weeks for it to arrive and checking for it everyday after the first week, was finally told that somebody else had in fact got it.moremad

Ed, Very nice I believe that's the first time I have seen a navy lanyard with shield.
