                      Hi Skip,

Well you never told me about your secret passion for cut-out IAB, for sure a nice club you brought together in secret and no wonder I had such a hard time finding one

Skip the first one you posted for sure is closest to my example. Correct me if I'm wrong but I could swear that the lower outer first and second accorns on the left side, feature clear cuts in their tops.

That last one you posted has a magnificent set-up, never seen anything like it. Am I correct in assuming that the catch is a simple "c" hook? Stunning badge

                      KR

                        Eagle eyes.

Closer inspection shows you are probably right

And yes, the last one has a C hook.
It does have an interesting hinge though.

                            Hi Skip,

Txs for the close ups my friend Exactly the same traces and your scan clearly show why handfinishing was necessary on these badges. Just look at the flange arround the oakleaves. Really wonder what had to go wrong in the stamping process the produce this kind of result

I find it even more amazing that they just didn't trough away these badges but started to work on them to make them halfway presentable.

That hinge without a doubt is the best quality hinge I have ever seen on any IAB, just amazing that's not an IAB but a piece of jewelery.

                            KR

                                Hi Jeff,

Not sure I can follow, you don't really think that the soldier in the field started working on these badges or do you ?
