Bill everyone seems to have their own way of doing it. They way you applied it is about the way I do it, although I use a well worn and softened up toothbrush and give it a gently rubbing on the infected spots that way. It takes the zincpest off. Then I let it sit overnight and in the morning I wipe it off with cotton. For badges that I know I've treated for zincpest wherever I display or store them I also include a silica packet to absorb moisture from the air...this I do on the advice of a friend who works in a museum with Native American artifacts ect........apparently rust and zinc pest thrive on moisture from the air. Hope that helps.
