    Cut Out PAB Portrait

    Hi,

I purchased this yesterday at a gun show and thought that the PAB collectors would like this portrait. It supposedly is a portriat of Oberst Albert Kopp.

I have included a picture of the back since there is some Russian writing on it. The dealer who sold the picture to me thought this came from the Russian archives. Can anyone verifiy this for me? The picture is not really "crisp" and appears to be a copy.

Yes, it's a Russian archive photo, these aren't the original german ones, still, a very nice pic

          Hi Gary,

Thanks for sharing this wonderfull picture with us Without a doubt one of the most impressive pics of a cut-out in wear I have ever seen. The grade of this officer ones more proofs that this modicifation wasn't done by some "hooligan" soldiers with to much time on there hands.

Garry any chance to see a close-up of the PAB itself?

I think Frank might be interested in that picture too for the chapter on the cut-out in the upcoming PAB book.

            Hi Philippe,

I thought you would enjoy that picture. It is the first real close up of a cut out I have seen like that. I wish the picture was sharper.

I will contact Frank ref the picture. I will try to find out what unit Oberst Kopp was assigned to from some of my references, perhaps this will also help.

            Thanks.

                Hi Philippe,

Well he is not listed as a KC recipient, probably one of the few Commanders not to earn one!

I did find this about him:

Oberstleutnant Arthur Kopp, Panzer Regt 1 Cdr 26/8/40

                  PAB Close up.

Here is the best I could do. I am sure someone who is better with computer imaging programs could do better....

                    Thanks again Gary.

The resolution indeed is a bit low to be able to identify the maker with certainty. My best gues would be A.S./AS in triangle/RK design

What I would be interested in is to know if it is possible to proof that our friend A. Kopp, participate in more then 3 Panzer assaults. Would it be worthwhile posting this guy in the individual research forum in an effort to find out what he did exactly. He for sure saw enough actual combat to earn the DKIG.

I thought it looked like a silver AS before the picture blow up from its unique shape and after I am in firm belief this is a AS based on the fact Philippe has three AS's that are cut out...

                        Hi Philippe,

I posted in the individual research section.

Hopefully some of the Panzer guys can help.
