Thanks for all your comments and time guys. I don't focus on IABs (or anything else for that matter!) It was just a little something that caught my eye while surfing dealer sites.
It was listed as an unmarked example, and I was surprised to see the Assman logo when it arrived. It is not well defined. It obviously was overlooked by the seller either in haste, or he simply had poor lighting.
A search here on the forum yielded several threads on this type of badge. In one of them, a comment was made by Frank Heukemes as I recall (?), that there was a distinctive metallic odor to this badge, produced by the base metal. Even with my tobacco addled sense of smell, I could distinguish it too.
Some form of "kriegsmetall" I assume.
As far as being common or not, I defer to you distinguished students of the Infantriesturmabzeichen.
All I know for sure is that she is humpbacked, fat, has a beard, and smells. In spite of all that, I like her anyway!
