    Brian.
I didn't think the thread was restricted to one item.
The LC Tank Badge is one of these badges (like the Guerrilla Warfare Badge) that collectors always like to see all the variants - good or bad - to compare and learn from.
    Please loosen up.
It's a Sunday afternoon hobby - not a matter of life and death.
Sometimes I think these forums - that's ALL the forums, not just this one - are more bother than they're worth.
It's all self-opinionated hot air at the end of the day - yes, me included.

Thanks. I thought it would be of interest. My badge is silvered brass with a steel pin.
Hmm, so would that mean yours is the "second type" with silver wash as opposed to the "800 marked" that is solid silver?

If the pin is steel that would make it magnetic correct? have others who have a second type checked to see if their pins are steel and magnetic?

I remember Frank H. had asked me to check if the "800 marked" was magnetic. I checked and it wasn't. And that was prior to finding out it was essentially solid silver.

Another thing - the illustration in the wartime catalogue is NOT a photograph. It's a DRAWING.

Yes, I thought that as well. hence your use of the word "illustration"

            Alex.
It's nice to have a civilised conversation.
My own (humble) opinion is that these terms such as 'first type', 'second type' etc. Condor Legion badges are misnomers based on the old writings of Klietmann. I do not think there was a 'first type' and 'second type' as such........there were just the usual maker variations after 1939 when the badge became official. I have seen at least 10 variations of these badges. Whether they are original or not is pure opinion. All I can say is that all the wartime pictures seem to show badges with 'proper' bones.......like the cap TK bones........not the 'bundle of sticks' bones that appear on most of the tank badges, including mine.
My badge is unmarked brass with a thin silver plating.
The pin is steel and magnetic.
Here is the hinge - so-called 'Wernstein'-type, another collector affectation.

              Pieter.
Robin, sorry, Pieter's hateful posts get me upset.

Pieter, Gordon and others thought these an exact match. So if it's not just purely personal why besides the hand finishing don't you point out the differences in the oaks and leaves? I don't appreciate you tracking me down on this forum and then coming after me like a spiteful child.

...Well I'm glad Robin you brought it up that the picture in the cataloge is a drawning, which it is. I didn't dare to mention, sone people would have verbaly killed me for it.
So I cannot understand why some people are trying to persuade that their badge is EXACTELY the same as in the Otto Schickle cataloge,....which it isn't.

Brian, your badge is NOT the same as the one in the cataloge, how hard you may ....try, and I believe it is not ME that is calling names to you, no?..."...spiteful child, nasty child, hateful child...."

...800 markings for a 900+ badge..., comparing pictures of drawnigs with badges and than pretend they are the same...what else do we have to swallow from people who ask "proofs" on every statement we make...com'on...

                    Pieter.

My 2 cents....and they come from a neutral in all this and I have no experience in these badges.

This thread could have been so good without all the bitching.

Pieter and Frank and any others should not be forced to show their badges.

Brian, lighten up and try building a few bridges.

The comparison in post 45 - for me, one being an illustration, should not be taken too seriously. For me they do not match either...

Any forum users wishing to learn about this badge are going to switch off with all the politics going on. Maybe a moderator should edit the crap.

                      cheers

                        -----
Fact- the badge is marked 800

Fact- an electronic surface test showed 95% silver

Fact- a chemical test using an actual metal sample of the badge showed a content close to 800 performed by a competent jeweler with 60 years experience.

Fact- two different tests showed two different results, so there is no definitive answer there, only benchmarks for others to compare with.

Fact- An esteemed member here, stated earlier that several of his badges that were marked 800 as well had surface test results that were of 900+. What then to make of those?

                        "Alex,
Nice to see some effort put forward by a member! Some time ago I tested many crosses and found that every one of the ones marked 800 silver, whether RKs or Imperial EK1s were all over 90% with a surface test. I was able to get below the silver plating on some and had similar results.
                        Marc"

I was hoping it would have been good, and I have tried REALLY hard to provide useful info. I can't force anyone to show anything they don't want to. But asking folks to share what they have for the greater good of all is perfectly reasonable. The rest is up to them. When I have time I will try and post a reverse set of my previous post as additional reference.

Boy, I would like to learn about these enigmatic badges.
Brian and Peter you are not helping.
Could you both refrain from posting anything but your pictures and opinions and why you think what you think?
I notice Frank has left the building and I know why. That won't help us learn. Don has one of these but I don't think he wants to get involved in these shenanigans either. If it continues like this there will be no one left in this discussion just bickering.

How about if we all go back and self edit as a show of good faith.

                              Best, Sal

..please guys, the only thing that I replyed is that they are making a "final conclusion" that the badge is the same as the one in the Otto Schickle cataloge.Well I stated it isn't! Nothing more nothing less. I think this is helping ...no?

I didn't call anybody names at all they only shout at me...or isn't it...But some are alowed more than others it seems.
