I assume Frank H. forgot to mention this variation in his book ! A simply human error. The intention of this variation must be to throw it onto the enemies head when he was near enough. If this badge missed the enemies head he rolled on the ground laughing when he saw it.
It also could be that the 50 means that you have to drink 50 bottles of bear to like it !
