    PAB Bronce Hollow from Wurster??

    Hello,
I have questions to these very nice looking PAB, what arrived me today. It is a typical Karl Wurster hollow PAB. I have two identical PABs with a weight of 14,1 g and 14,3 g, these PAB is 17,7g it is ok?? What do you think about the rosa lacquer under the bronce finish. I hope the picrures are shows it. It is a new fake, I never see these finish before.

    Thanks for your help

        Dear Winfried,
It looks like this KWM is copper coated to me? Looks good IMO.

Tombak does that sometimes. It looks to me like the badge has been cleaned.

Good point Don. Chemical cleaner will trigger discoloration like this as well. But then, why the difference in the weight?

Different thickness to the planchet that was struck. Different metal composition, more important is the height and width. 3 grams is really nothing unless you are talking cocaine.

Badges can easily have varied differences in weight. Some times as much as 30%. Every time a new and different production run is started the material is no longer the same as that which was used in the previous run. Tooling will also take on slightly different characteristics as it is reset into the press .

                      Hi Guys,

Winfrieds first Wurster is absolutely original but like mentioned by Don it was cleaned. The discoloration is typical to be found on buntmetall badges but as a result of the cleaning it changed color from dark brown to rose.

The weight difference is no problem. 1 pattern (chaos grass) Wursters will be much lighter then 2 pat. (organized grass badges)

The weight of this 1 pattern is 12,25 grams

and this second pattern comes in at 21,85 which is a 100% match to another 2 pat in my collection.

                          Hello,
thanks to all for your opinions, is the value a lot under an uncleaned item, when yes I send it back.

                          Regards

                          Winfried

It will patina over again. It is made of a brass composition. Value is what you place on it. It doesn't appear damaged from the cleaning.

The badge will also regain its patina alot faster left exposed to air then in a glass case. ~Ed
