    Help Please With GAB Maker

I could use some help in the identification of this General Assault Badge.

Using Frank's new book, this GAB's setup seems to be a cross between Steinhauer & Lucks 1.15.2 ( with it's long block hinge), and S&Ls 1.15.3 (with its round catchplate).

Could this be one of those pieces where a combination of components were used in "transition" from one type to another?

I'm having a little trouble distinguishing obverse details due to the thick "frosting" or finish on the badge.

Am I on the right track here......or am I looking at making another contribution to Lorenzo's GAB fake gallery.

Your assistance with this would be appreciated.

    Dennis

        Hi Dennis ,

You're correct this is an early zinc S&L GAB. This type comes before the ones featuring the classic Juncker set-up and lacks the guide lines for hinge and catch set-up aswell as the typical S&L PAB dieflaw.

Here is it's PAB counter part

Not at all, guys! It is a fake with the design of unknown maker #10. There are several fakes with this design. The JFS marked fake, the Assmann screwback fake and the fat W in box fake. All three are shown in my book and this is just another fake, no connection with S&L and not their design either.
          Cheers, Frank

Thank you Frank and Philippe for your help. I'll be posting this on Lorenzo's gallery later in the day.

Sadly, my "knowledge" of having seen this combo on PAB's, coupled with the frosty finish and convincing "wear" got me on this one . I will be curious to check the source of this purchase as well.

On a positive note, posting it will help others not make the same mistake, and I now have a reference book with which I can start paying closer attention to the obverse details of the GABs.

I appreciate your help, and please indulge me further as I ask for your assistance in vetting the rest of my GAB collection.

              Dennis
