    APB IN GOLD w/Diamonds

The APB in GOLD with the Juncker inscription has been discussed at length on a previous thread and is a well known reproduction. The only known pieces I believe IMHO to be authentic are the ones pictured in Dietrich's recent book on Heer Awards. The one sold at the Max I believe also to be authentic as the pin clasp set up match other badges from Juncker's custom shop to include a similar set up to the 20 July wound badges. I have seen close up the one sold at the Max, and the provenance given to its surfacing, lend to its credibility.

The badge pictured from the book is the APB in GOLD with Blued Sword, and very few of these were distributed, mostly to Karstjager who served in Italy. I have seen close up photos of a Blued Sword variant, and the rear pin/clasp set up match to APB variant with diamonds sold at the Max.

The APB with Diamonds Bob is talking about is to be seen in my book "The Awards of the Heer, Vol. I" page 322. I consider this badge (and I am by far not the only one) as the original one.

The one from the MAX and the one in my book are the same badge.

The one I saw, at the MAX was a wonderful piece and the provenance is believable. I remember it being auctioned by Mohawk Arms.

Are there any more in collections?

I don't think stamping a small 800 proof mark into the badge would distort it at all. If this were true, then why isn't the pin distorted then? Also, Juncker had not problems stamping their early, silver Army Paratrooper badges.

And that still leaves the question of why a proof mark is on the badge, when it was not made from silver at all but rather gilded brass?

                    Eddie,

I fully understand your request and normally I do whatever I can to help. But in this case I will not do it and here is the reason: I went through a great deal to obtain the badge, photograph and scan it, weigh and document it in order to have an up to date chapter about this badge.

If I post the pictures here and all the data they will very soon be in a data base somewhere else where one has to pay to see it. It has happened before and I don't see why some people have to do all the research and others just copy and paste and put their name on it.

I hope you understand. But just to help a litte here is the hinge. The badge is marked "800".

                      Hi Dietrich,

I just took a look at your book to see this APB, and I have to say that I like it quite a bit more than the one shown in this thread. Hard to be sure with such a one of a kind badge, but I can say that the reverse hardware looks more like what I would expect from a Juncker product. The fact that it is only marked 800 also seems consistent with with some of their other products (such as the silver Army Para badges and RK frames, etc.). The wear and the finish also looks more appropriate in my opinion.

The provenance is just icing on the cake.

                        Gentlemen,
I would be happy to post the back of the badge showing the "800" imprint, however I do not have the rights for the attachment feature of this forum. Should the administrator deem it appropriate, I will be happy to post.

Is this the same version which was discussed here already? Hüsken says it is a flatback marked "800" and "C.E. Juncker". It also comes with a 14 page expertise from Nimmergut.

I think the auction price for that beauty says everything we need to know about its extreme rarity!
