    "4" IAB Fake?

    Hi,

what´s your opinion on this one?

I don´t like the details on it and nore do i like that flattened cast hinge construction The original one´s i have seen are rounded in the hinge cast.

Is it me or is it the badge
    Regards

    Hi Hans

I agree not quite correct, especially the hinge area.

This is my #4 Assman reverse

    cheers

I think the catch also looks like it has been filed into shape from the inside. I think these badges should have cast catches like the one below (from a bronze Assman #2).

Maybe you could post a pic of the obverse as well..

      cheers

Hi Hans, this badge does seem a little odd. I don't have pics of my "4" handy unfortunately. The hinge seems to be off, seems a litte tall if that makes any sense and almost like it isn't relly a cast hinge. Looks almost like the cast hinge broke off and a crude replacement was put on. How is the obverse of the badge, do you have any pics?

I also thought exactly that. But the seller says there have been no repairs to it. I am sure Hans will post an obverse shot later.

            regards

The frontside looks ok to me. Perhaps there existed two hinge-catch-variations???

                    Hi,

the "4 IAB" looks like a fake to me.

All my "4 IABs" look different and the "1 IABs" the "2 IABs" and the "3 IABs" look like my "4 IAB" so I would not like to have the shown IAB in my collection.

I agree with Sven. All of the numbered Assman IABs I have seen have a different hinge to the one shown.

I also dislike the bayonet area details and the "blob" above the catch, it reminds me of an entry point to a casting, that was never cleaned up. All my IABs of this maker have a "clean" catch.

With examples of these badges found frequently I would pass on the badge in question.

                            cheers

PS As I only posted the reverse of mine here is the obverse.

The one on Lorenzo's site does not match this badge.
What I do not like about this one is the hinge, catch, and as GraemeS stated the bayonet.

I would not add this to my collection.
