PAB help, please

Unfortunately no camera at the moment but i will try and describe as best as i can I hopefully should get camera back Saturday....
First is a 1942 AWS that has a strong gold colour on the front..but no crimped catch, is that a bad sign? The hinge also appears to be slightly off centre. The other is a solid bronze with a mm that looks like an S inside a triangle with a dot in each corner. It has a very wide catch and quite a fat pin. The maker mark is just above the catch which after doing a search does not appear right.. It does'nt look good.......does it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Well we have only your description to go on but that is sufficient to known that the AS in triangle is a fake. If this badge is offered to you by the same guy that is offering the AWS I'm 99% certain that the AWS also will be a fake. So if I were you I would pass on both of them.

Hi Darren,

Do you think their is a possibility you could send the AWS to me before returning it?

The pictures are very bad but this isn't like any of the Fake AWS's I have ever seen. Certainly the hinge set-up looks very strange but based upon these pics I can't tell if we are looking at a repair.

What makes me want to give this badge a chance is it's finish. Certainly the obverse finish is spot on for AWS and the aging of the reverse finish somehow looks convincing. This also isn't a cutter fake, on the contrary the whole outlining of the badge looks rather soft.

Really would love to handle this one before making up my mind.

Hi Guys,


Bringing this one back to the top because today Darrens AWS arrived.

Well the pics tell it all I guess. This is nothing more then a poor casting. What trough me of course a little was the finish on the first not so good pics Darren posted of this badge. After holding it its obvious. The bronze color in in fact the color of the base metal used to make this badge. The silver still visible on the reverse is somekind of finish. The badge also is considerably smaller then the original.

It's the first time that I have encountered this type of AWS copie but based upon its construction technique it must be a rather old one.
