    Dear Don,

    This is an original badge. The same obverse design can be found on "Assmann" screw-back fakes or the "JFS" semi-hollow fakes.
    Hinge and especially the catch are always very crudely soldered. So what your are loking at is the original, unchanged setup.
    A variation of this type GAB can be found with a dished reverse or in semi-hollow form.
    There is a candidate for a possible manufacturer of those, but until now it remains speculation.

      Thanks Frank. I was a tad concerned at the sloppy reverse setup but thought it might just have been a repair.

        What is the chance that this was actually a silver wash/coating and it has turned golden with age. I seem to remember a thread once that had a badge that did this....
