    CCC JFS 2nd Pattern

    Hello Gents,

Would like to show you this beautiful JFS 2nd pattern CCC.
I have a question about the verdigris. Is it possible, that the clasp was copper-plated before the bronzing, in order to achieve better adhesion of the bronzing?
Know that from some IABs, but not from JFS, which also made IABs by themselves.

    Thanks and best regards
    Basti

Very nice 2nd pattern JFS. Put some vaseline on the clasp to preserve it better.
The clasp hade been in bad storage I think.

Do you have any pictures with the needle open? The backplate looks a little to small maybe.

        Hi Basti,

Nice original JFS clasp with finish in really nice condition. Looks great, especially from the obverse.

I don't think JFS applied a copper coating on their badges, they just used a really high quality bronze finish (like most Gablonz makers like AGMuK too). This one has a two toned finish, where they rubbed a black finish over the bronze finish, then wiped it away leaving the recesses darker which gives clasps an excellent 3-D appearance. I don't see the verdegris you are talking about. I see corrosion on the pin, but that is rust because the pin is made from steel. As Andy says, a little vaseline wipe down will help preserve the clasp for the future.

Great clasp, thanks for showing such a beauty.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          Thank you Gents
AndyC I'm not worried about the back plate. But you're right, it didn't seem to be particularly good. Fortunately, the bronzing suffered only minimally
Thomas Durante I once took a better photo in daylight so that you can see the verdigris better.

          Best regards

            Hi Basti,

Thanks for the closeups, I do see the verdegris now you are talking about. It is likely that the bronze finish used by JFS had copper element in it.

Always good to check and be sure, especially these days with the fakes getting better and better.
