    GAB Help Needed

Guys, a friend in Sough Dakota recently purchased a small group from a vet and had this unusual GAB in the lot. Unfortunately he doesn't have internet so this is only a scan of a photo he sent me. Also I don't have a photo of the obverse. The real question is the maker's mark. I'm not a real GAB guy, but I've never seen a mark like this. The question is whether or not it's real and if it is, who made it?

      Dear Larry,

This type of badge, currently assigned to Karneth, has appeared with some unusual marks so far. Known ones are "III-14", "20" and now your "8". However, there are also badges of other designs than Karneth's with other inexplicable marks. Most of these seem to be original to the badge.
It can only be speculated what these marks are. Possibilities IMO are some kind of control numbers or distribution marks, especially in the case of known marks and logos by other makers than the the one who actually made the badge. In your case, and I think it is a number "8", it might be a Präsidialkanzlei code, but possibly just a control mark. We will possibly never know, but I am very interested in these marks and gather all information about them. Maybe one day we will have a clue.
      Cheers, Frank

This is why I love this hobby. If everything was already known we could just buy it and say "Ha, I got that already."
