RRS PAB, Frank & Reif PAB and KW PAB for Review

I think these are good, but would like verification. Is the Karl Wurster Bronze, or is it just a poor finish on a zinker?

All original examples. The R.R.S. is in outstanding condition although the reverse appears to have been cleanded. Seldom are they found with this amount of finish remaining.

Agree with Chet,all look great and as said the finish on that RSS is very nice.

The Frank Reif is also in lovely condition.

The Karl Wurster is a bronze finish on zinc as you suggested.

It may just be the lighting and the fact that I’m looking at this on an iPhone, but I think the RRS may have been polished both front and rear. If so, it may gain some of the original patina back over time, especially if it has as much of the original finish on it as I think it does. Just give it a Vaseline bath and store it in a moderately dry location, but don’t enclose it in something airtight like a plastic bag. Monitor it for zincpest and be patient as it may take years.

Hi guys,

I think the RRS has been refinished, there is absolutely no wear at all on it and the color of the silver finish just looks odd. Maybe it was cleaned like the others have said, but the absolute minty condition of the finish with no sign of wear at all is just a big red flag, especially on such a late war badge like this IMO.

The other 2 PABs are fine originals with correct finish and look to them.

Hi Tom,
You’ll get no argument from me as you definitely have more experience than I do when it comes to finishes and such. I based my observations on what I could see on my little phone. To me it appears that there may be some original patina left in the crevices on both front and back and the edges. Better photos in natural sunlight would certainly help for a final analysis.

Hello All,

Thank you for the comments. It will be a while until I will have them back in my hands for additional pictures, but, will gladly post them. Some of you may have also seen this other thread I posted with numbered GABs and a PAB (https://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/for...adges/11673956). The finishes on all these are remarkable as they have sat untouched in a 50 year-old collection. I didn't believe some of them myself, and set aside the PAB25 as an "impossibility". I can't "vouch" for anything, but, the R.R.S. and F&R finishes are as good as they look in the photos, if not better. I'll get additional photos posted likely next week.

Thanks for the update Eric. No hurry on the photos, but if that RRS turns out to be 100% untouched, please put me on the list of people that will be messaging you to buy it whenever you decide to part with it.
