A stunning badge that is for sure!
Lovely cupal example with nice finish and patina. The hinge is a variant set-up that is rarely seen on the Assmann panzer badge. That type of smaller hinge is mostly soldered on a rectangular plate. Hard to see. Possible to provide some closer pic of the hinge? A keeper for sure!

For instance, you can find this type of set-up also on the Assmann flak badge in zinc.

          Hi Chris,

Can you post a few closeups of the hinge with the pin open? I think it is a legitamate variant, as Jelle shows Assmann is known to have used that small block hinge on other badges.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

            Hey Guys,

Unfortunately, I dont have the badge in hand. It was on a dealer website so I will just order it and post better pictures when I get it.

            Regards,
            Chris G.

Interesting assmann PAB. Definitely a setup they used, but better pics would be good. Not too sure if its cupal or just a nice zincer....Hard to tell from the pics.

                  Hey Tom,

I have always been in the game but it just hard for me to post a lot anymore as my work is not cool with me using their computer for this type of thing. Also, I no longer collect zincers anymore so that make it hard to acquire good badges. I have also started liking k98's and those aint cheap...

I would love to go back to the SOS as would the man who shall not be named. Unfortunately, I dont think I will be going anytime soon and no one will bunk with my since i snore worse than a pug dog. Maybe one day...I would really love to go back as I miss seeing everyone and beating you to $80 NS Juncker PAB's.

                  Chris

An excellent badge with uncommon hinge. Nice and desirable for sure

Here are some more photo's of the PAB...I dont know if its cupal since the weight is 23.38 grams according to my scale. I weighed my cupal IAB to compare and it was 18.38. Maybe my scale is a piece of crap?

                        Regards,

I have weighed my other 2 Cupal Assmann examples and this one if far heavier...I believe that this one is copper coated zinc. What do you think?

                          Regards,
                          Chris G.

If the weight is 23 grams that is indeed far too heavy for a cupal example.
Coated zinc is the only possibility left. Like mentioned earlier that is a very beautiful badge with crisp detail and
a great amount of finish preserved. Very rare with that set-up.
