Hello, I ask aid for a small dilemma that I do not succeed to resolve. You help me to understand if this panzer is this lottery of medals is originates them? Thanks

Hi Guys,
Wouldn't kill the Porsche yet !
IMO it's original but I wonder in what condition it was found, I like to think that it was ground dug.
Without profile shots of the hardware my best guess would be that it is made out of Nickel silver, has a replacement / repaired catch and the same most likely goes by for the pin.
This badge shows an extreme amount of wear and I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of it comes from aggressive cleaning. When found the it might very well have looked completely black like the color in the recessed areas.
Jeff it indeed features one of the recognition marks of the fakes but remember that the fakes are based upon an original so it's would only be logical that some of the originals show it too.
if possible I would love to see some profile shots of the hinge and catch.

Say guys, am I the only one encountering serious problems when posting replies.
Since this morning one one out of two goes without problems, all the other times the system completely blocks without any fault message
Even my reply in this thread isn't announced. I can see it but Don is still visible as the last who replied in this thread.
well lets see if this gets through

I don’t know Philippe, the reverse looks very poorly made to me... Even for the “ground dug”…Then there are these "dots" next to the left headlight…Last edited by robert60446; 04-07-2007, 06:31 AM.

Dear Robert,
Wouldn't know what the dots are without holding it but infact you can see a lot of them sitting in on the deeper areas of the panzer.
Like I wrote above you can clearly see that this badge was very agressively cleaned they even might have used a grinding tool. Where ever this tool touched the badge on the reverse you can see bright base metal but non of the black stuff came out of the reverse its sitting nicely protected in the oakleaves. Whatever they used took a lot of the material away making the wreath edges look thicker (flattened) and it has taken away the overall depth of the strike.
Trust me their is nothig wrong with this badge apart from the fact that it's messed with and doesn't feature all its original hadware. Detailed pics of the hinge will proof this.

Ok, i will trust you on that one!
Besides your “ground dug” theory makes sense.

Philippe can you show me other examples of a pitted Nickle Silver badge..also the reverse upper right top road wheels-99% examples have extra material between the wreath and road wheel nothing there also needle shows same discoloration as rest of badge....This would also have to be a very very early porsche with out the extra material described and I still can't phantom it...Just trying to figure this out....

Dear Jeff,
Good eye on the pitting. That first through me of a little too but if you look carefull you will see that this isn't zinc pitting. IMO this is just damage to the base material caused by decades of deterioration. Ground dug would be my best guess but it could have been sitting anyware.
Only nickel silver can survive this. Please notice that even in the areas where material is grinded away (reverse but also the left upper oakleaves) the "exposed" material always has the same color.
On the extra material that your are missign that also could silmply be grinded away.
Judging the pin from these pics is very difficult. Only better pics will tell the true story.
