    Who was EWE?

Any of our European members want to take a stab on contacting a company? Might be a longshot...

Some net surfing reveals several EWE firms listed today, but EWE Oberlausitzer Metallverarbeitung GmbH in Niedercunnersdorf in extreme eastern Sachsen mught be a candidate.

EWE Oberlausitzer Metallverarbeitung GmbH: "Herstellung von Metallerzeugnissen<!-EL -->; <!-JL8 -->Metallerzeugung und -bearbeitung." http://www.firmenwissen.de/psfiwi/fn...TUNG_GMBH_.HTM

And this location in Saxony is close to the Czech border, and only 73 km away from what is now Jablonec nad Nisou; the city that was Gablonz an der Neiße. (FWIT) I couldn't find any information on how long the company has been in business, or how long thay have been producing metal wares.

    Dear Greg,

Worth a try IMO. I think this is an assignments for Sherlock Skip

No wonder this is an unknown maker mark even today their full name doesn't seem to have any relation what so ever with EWE.

Skip are you going to give it a try?

Nearly missed this as it slid down the pile.

Phoned up this morning, a very helpful lady on the telephone.

Firm was first founded 1993. EWE is the family name of the owner. They make pressed metal parts for the automobile industry.
No former company under this name especially not in the time between 1919 and 1945.

      Sorry Greg but nice try.

But something actually DID come out of this. I never thought of EWE as a family name, I thought it had to be an abbreviation for three words, because I never saw that family name in the regions of Germany I lived. But it seems to be not so uncommon in that special area of Germany. It should therefor be considered that EWE might be a family name, even if we do not find him in the maker list. Remember that list has a few blanks.
            Cheers, Frank

I had also not thought that EWE was a family name. Most of the internet references were bringing up firms with EWE as part of their title, but in whole or in part associated with the "EWE" (Ems-Weser-Elbe) region in Niedersachsen. Like this EWE AG energy company up in that area http://www.ewe.de/363.php . The reference I saw to the Oberlausitzer Metallverarbeitung firm was actually written as Ewe like a family name, and I capitalized it to EWE. Something to continue to look for.

                Hi Guys,

I was thinking just the same and this also would explain why there are no dot's found in the logo. Not an abbreviation but a name. Well taken in to account that we don't know of the existance of any other EWE marked badge this for sure must have been a very small company also explaining the painfull effort they put in handfilling these late PAB's. If this was their only product they for sure had the time to make them in to little jewells.
