    Dear Hans

My mind was the same as yours, but when I saw this packet and W in circle event. This idea jumps up my mind. When we look at the Maker list, we can see a lot of companies, but we just can find just a few logos of makers. Is that possible the rest of makers made nothing?

IMO, SHuCo might create the die and they put the MM on all of their products. Some small companies didn't have enough resource to create one, so they bought the obverse dies form SHuCo. When other makers used the die, they just made the badges and put them into their own packets. That would be much easier to create a reverse die with MM.

So, I think this IAB could not be a SHuCo IAB. Think about that if you are a maker and you have MM and die of MM. Don't you want to make MM on your products?

Junker's pilot badges are good examples. Junker put his name on badges even when the dies were changed.

I recently picked up a Silver IAB with blue packet (packet stamped for Gottlieb & Wagner/Oberstein) - this combination is exactly like the first images in this thread where the badge matches those images to include the hinge and catch except the finish has departed 75% of the badge. Reportedly the set came off of eBay last year, sold by someone who stated he got it direct from the veteran.

Badges and packets can be either deliberately or inadvertantly switched around. But if enough of these combinations of this style of IAB and this maker's packet surface, you have to start to wonder about the possibility of there being an authentic connection.

                  new pickup

I recently picked up this G&W IAB and packet (interesting how they come in pairs). I thought it better to add to this particular thread rather than starting a new one.

First let me say, WOW what a beautiful IAB .

Is there a story behind this pair? Do you know the "chain of custody" so to speak?

                          vet estate

I believe it came from a vet estate, that's all I know.
