Sure a rare and hard to find badge nowadays Gene. You are one of the few I know who really seriously collect FFSp.
DonĀ“t you think, judging from the silver on hinge/catch and pin that it was silvered and its all just evaporated?

            Dear Gene,

Nice clasp, but I for one am convinced that it did have a silver finish one time. The silver finish remaining on the higher quality metal parts of the clasp, including the solder and its "sprinkles" are proof of that, I believe.
It is my conviction that finishes on zinc can be totally absorbed, even in crevices, without "handling" being neccessary in those parts. Just by chemical reaction. Some zinc alloys seem more, some less prone to that. Even among the same maker.
            Cheers, Frank

                Gene,

                Specifically:

                1) Osang only
                2) Fighter only
                3) Obviously, zinc only

                Maybe I can help.

Here is a late war gold example by Osang. The finish is microflaking away, even as I typ, but is still intact. Zinc is not condusive to holding long term plating and the finish just flakes away in microscopic pieces.
