    Hi,

I will post the pictures from the setup from my IAB as soon I have daylight. I was warned to show this IAB on this forum. But it is time to show it and to discuss it.

Please don`t mess up this thread with GABs and PABs. We are talking about IABs from BSW. This is a very interesting thread for IAB Collectors (and especially for me) !!!

I would appiciate a discussion about my last posted IAB !!!!

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

Intresting, to say the least. Since we are only considering IAB's in this instance I will focus on Sven's third posted IAB. The obverse looks good but I have a big problem with the hinge/catch set up. The maker's mark makes no difference to me all though I am suspect of it. I cannot see a hinge/catch system being constructed so weakly. This type of system has been seen on many types of fakes wether they be IAB's or PAB's. I could be wrong (and will apologize later if need be) but my gut does not accept this hinge/catch setup.

I showed this third IAB to some experts. And I was told not to show this to the WAF public. Now I do it. And I will see what comes out of it

              Lets discuss it

                To make it more interesting

Detlev thinks the obverve is a perfect BSW
but he has no clue abaut the reverse

Never ever a COA will be made !!!!

What do you guys think ????

This type of hingeconstruction are often seen on Woundbadges, aspecially early tombac one´s. To be honest i have never seen this type on a IAB before, only read and heard of them in general. There are some smaller differenses in the WB hinge design though, no catchplate and a different type of attachment of the pin.

I can´t say that i am 100% shure but i do beleave this to be a very early type used in a very, very breaf period of time. With out doubt this kind of hardware must be very fragile and was stoped used coz of that simple fact.

In Robin Lumsdens book "Detecting the Fake" this exact type is illustrated.

I can understand Chet´s reaction and response to this one, there are some fake badges with a close looking design.
                  Regards

                    Hans,
I knew that I had seen that set up in a book someplace. I just could not remember where last night. Thanks!

True, but I've spent the last day staring at every example of BSW IAB's I could find and this badge is as dead on as it gets. Is it at all possible in anyones opinion that the hardware is replaced. As Hans stated there are examples of wound badges with this set-up. Judging by the obverse alone this would have to be one of the better repros I've seen.

What about the makers mark, is this one of the known variants. I know I've seen it on a couple pilot badges before. Of course I know nothing about these but I would be suprised to find that those badges were fakes. They belong to a man I know who has been collecting since before I was born. I know that is not proof positive but......I'm just thinking outloud here.

                        Hi Sven

As Chet mentioned, the pin looks so thin and feeble, hard to believe this was the original pin.
Does the hinge look repaired at all, from the pics it looks like it may have. Maybe the hinge and pin were replaced with what was available at the time.

Could we see a side shot of the hinge and a larger pic of the maker mark.

The obverse finish is just great on that badge.

Hey what was the conclusion on Marvins IAB..the one that started this thread.....An unknown maker that has had a bsw mark added later to make it more desirable??

                        cheers

                        Graeme

                          Hi,

here some more pictures from my third IAB. I don`t think that pin or catch were replaced. I think that it was kind of a test IAB which was not too successful. As far as I know there is at least one PAB with exactly this pin and catch.
