    Hi Rolf

Some SHuCo badges have 4 stems in the top right leaf and some have 5.

I believe Indy/Hans noticed this a short while ago and there are a couple of very good threads on ShuCo IABs that talk about the differences.

The following pic is from a SHuCo with the 4 stem leaf.

    Hope this helps.

    regards

    Graeme

      Hi Oleg

When I first looked at your badge I was not comfortable with many of the leaf patterns. Look at the two lower leaves on the left hand side. The stems look double struck and much different from the one Hans posted.

It would be really nice to have scans of this badge if possible

      regards

      Graeme

        Oleg,

there is two possible theory´s regarding your badge and i have a feeling it will be very, very hard to determine in which category your badge falls in to of them.

        1. "Late" war made in a worn die that developed some flaws.

        2. A copy that came very close to the originals but lacks the details in mm and leafarterys etc.

SHuCo´s where made in mass, especially the 4 stemmed one´s which is the most common encountered by this maker. However the badly done mm is very rarly seen by this maker.

Do you have the possibility to weigh and measure your bagde Oleg?

Measures of interest are, with of eagle, hight and lenght, length of the rifle.
        Regards

          hi Oleg

This is my 4 stemmed SHuCo IAB MM pic. Normally, we can see 2 kinds of SHuCo IAB MM.
          1. S.H.u.Co. 41 (solid)
          2. S.H.u.Co. -O. (hollow)
          best regards
          Indy

          ps. thanks for Hans' correction

            Dear Indy,

Lorenzo´s massive is also a SH.u.Co 41, the doublestriking makes it hard to see the digits but the 1 is clearly seen on the pic.

I don´t think Lorenzo mind me using it here

              yup Hans...you are right

I think I need to wear glasses . I will correct the post. Thanks buddy

Hans, do you think the MM of Oleg's example is pretty weak, and there is a hole above MM. Normally, they don't have this hole. The end of pin just touchs the lower edge of hinge.

I don't mind. Here are more pictures of mine that appears the same as Oleg's badge. The mark is directly under the hinge and hard to see. Right below it is another italicized stamp. The badge is zinc with a good quality silver finish.

Lorenzo: There is someone on that "other" militaria website that has a ShuCo 41 IAB almost identical to yours- messed up makers-mark, great finish and all!

Just letting you know if you haven't seen it yet.

Thanks, John ... I just went "there" and saw it.

Yep...same badge. Very interesting because that is the first I've seen other than mine. The badge is definitely zinc and mine has spots of bonafied crystalized zinkpest on the bottom of the wreath to the right of the rifle butt.

Really don't know what to make of this badge but you can see on both how the mark was cast-in too high and there were attempts to modify it. The Italized stamp on mine is totally different from the normal SHuCo mark and actually gives the badge more credibility (to me) since the cost of making such a stamp would preclude a faker.

                            Lorenzo,

the so called italized makermark on your badge, could that have happened if the reverse part of the mold moved and squashed it?

I beleave that´s what happened and that is also why we sometimes can see SH.u.Co IAB´s with the makermark misaligned (to low, to high etc). I have even seen badges with the mm directly under the hinge, barely seen.
                            Regards

May be it interesting. I found in my collection similar IAB SHuCo. With good mm, but the hinge closed it.
